Mobile Apps “Nara Asukakyo Historic Walk –the Time Trip to the Asuka Period”

This app guides you to the historic site of Asuka where the first capital of Japan was established 1400 years ago. You can walk with this app in Asuka Village located in Nara Japan and see your location in the ancient map of Asuka Period. There are audio guide which explain the historical background of the ancient capital in English, Chinese, and Korean.

Where am I in the Asukakyo?
You can find out. Please compare and contrast the maps of ancient Asuka capital from 1400 years ago with the current illustrated map of Asuka Village. Once you are in Asuka Village, your location shows up on the historic map with the GPS function.

The storytellers of the audio guide are the historical figures from the Asuka Period. On the recommended walk route which appears on the maps contain many historic stories. The storytellers will guide you through in multi-language.

Onda Matsuri Festival

This festival is held in the Asukaniimasu-jinja Shrine on the first Sunday of February. The day of the festival starts with an event that drives away evil spirits. This rare festival is famous for the play
where masked actors pretend to be a married couple having sex and praying for the prosperity of descendants.

Yururiya

YururiyaThe owner and his wife have moved from Osaka to Asuka-mura for farming.
They renovated a 150-year-old folk house by themselves, and accommodated their friends who came to help with their farm at times. Gradually, they grew interested in home lodging.
“Since we are not hospitality professionals, we cannot give you formal service. But we are hoping to welcome our guests and enjoy together like homestay programs” The couple smile.
Enjoy the carefully prepared dinner of lots of fresh organic vegetables together with the family of the owner.
If interested, you can experience harvesting of their vegetables.

Okadera Temple

Its formal name is Ryugai-ji.
There is a pond called Ryugai-ike which is said to have a dragon sealed within in the grounds.
The principle object of worship is the Cintamani-cakra bodhisattva sedentary statue (Important Cultural Property), which is the largest earthen statue in Japan. In the spring, 3000 rhododendrons color the grounds.
